Swim Lessons

Swim Lessons

The Summerville YMCA offers a teaches a lifelong skill nobody should be without. Swim lessons for all skill levels are the building blocks of youth development and healthy living throughout our lives! As swimmers progress in their skill set, they move up the ladder. Each class is taught by certified aquatics instructors. Financial assistance is available.

Sessions:

30 minute classes – Parent/Child, Pike, Eel, Ray
Cost:
Members: $40
Potential Members: $70

45 minutes classes – Polliwog, Guppy, Minnow, Fish,  Adult
Cost:
Members: $55
Potential Members: $85

Swim Lesson Descriptions:

Parent/Child

Ages: 6 months to 2.5 years

Parents learn various ways to help children get acclimated in the water utilizing songs and games.

Pike

Ages: 3 to 5 years

Swimmers have not taken a class or are not yet comfortable putting their face in the water. Swimmers learn to build self-confidence and are introduced to skills that will help move them through the water without assistance.

Eel

Ages: 3 to 5 years

Swimmers have passed Pike class or are comfortable putting their face in the water. Swimmers continue to build endurance, self-confidence, and coordination moving in the water without assistance.

Ray

Ages: 3 to 5 years

Swimmers have passed Eel class or are able to swim 5 feet in the water without assistance. Swimmers begin to learn strokes on both front and back.

Polliwog

Ages: 6 to 12 years

Swimmers have not taken a class or are unable to swim 5 feet without assistance. Swimmers will become comfortable in the water and learn how to paddle on their front, back and sides with a floatation device.

Guppy

Ages: 6 to 12 years
Swimmers have passed the Polliwog class or are able to swim 5 feet without assistance. Swimmers continue to gain self-confidence in the water, in addition to swimming without a floatation device on their front, back and side. Front alternating paddle is also introduced.

Minnow

Ages: 6 to 12 years
Swimmers have passed Guppy class or are able to swim width of pool using front crawl (10 yards). Swimmers continue improving on their back crawl, elementary backstroke, and front crawl. This class introduces breaststroke, sidestroke, and improves on safety skills.

Fish

Ages: 6 to 12 years
Swimmers have passed the Minnow class or are able to swim backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, kick and freestyle. This class teaches the complete forms of butterfly and breaststroke.

Adult

Age: 13+
Swimmers will gain comfort in the water through exposure to various techniques and tools.


Private Swim Lessons

Ages: Children and Adults

One-on-one swim instruction tailored to fit your individual needs and goals. We recognize that some people, such as those with certain disabilities and those who have had a negative experience with water, may benefit from one-on-one instruction. Pool Parties

Pool Parties

Public and private parties are available.

Public parties are schedules while the pool is open for open swim / lap swim. Private parties are after the pool has closed, allowing your party to utilize the entire pool facility. For additional information, please contact Cherie Bennett or call 296-2242.

Times:

2:30pm – 4:30pm (Private at Wellness)
7:00-9:00pm (Private at Oakbrook)
3:00-5:00pm or 5:00-7:00pm (Public at Oakbrook)

Private Party fees: Members: $150, Potential Members: $225
