Volunteer

Vol-un-teer
[vol-uhn-teer]
–noun

1. a person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking.

2. a person who performs a service willingly and without pay.

When George Williams founded the Y in 1844, he did so as a volunteer. In the Y movement’s early history, all of the people delivering and services at the Ys were volunteers. Volunteers help root YMCAs to their identity as associations to belong to, rather than places to buy services. That quality is one of the characteristics that makes Ys special, setting them apart from organizations that offer similar programs. To keep it alive, Ys need to integrate volunteers fully into their management and operations.

That is where you come in!

We are continuously looking for individuals; teens, adults, families and seniors, who are looking to become more involved with our community and who desire to give of themselves to help others. Please take a moment to complete our volunteer application and tell us a little bit about yourself. Return the completed form to any YMCA Front Desk and we will have our Volunteer Coordinator contact you.
